Wheelchair Storm wins Blacktown’s first WSL Banner in 13 years

Another title to add to the historic 2025 Blacktown Storm Season! Congratulations to your Wheelchair Storm team for pulling off an undefeated season and coming home with the BNSW Waratah 2 Wheelchair Championship. A special mention to Josh Meoli for being an extraordinary player-coach and winning the Finals MVP award.

Huge credit as well to the Central Coast Waves for an epic Grand Final, full of tough defence and seriously impressive shot-making.

Our partnership with Blues Wheelchair Basketball kicked off in 2021, which also marked the first season of Meoli and his crew playing for Blacktown Storm in the Waratah Senior League (WSL). Since then, Josh’s commitment to developing players and creating high-level competition opportunities has been a driving force behind the team's success.

The finals this past Sunday really showed just how far the squad has come and if you ask the team, they’ll tell you this is just the beginning.

Final scores from the WSL Wheelchair 2 Finals:

  • Semi Finals

    • Blacktown Storm vs Macarthur Heat (44-14)

    • Top Scorer: Ethan Hallak - 18 points

  • Grand Finals

    • Blacktown Storm vs Central Coast Waves (51-39)

    • Top Scorer: Josh Meoli - 21 points

We also want to recognise Deb Muir, the team’s manager, for her outstanding help throughout the season.

Congratulations again to the whole Blacktown Storm Wheelchair team! We cannot wait to hang your championship banner in the rafters soon.

Thank you Basketball NSW for the season and to Central Coast for hosting the Finals.
