CBBA 2026 Annual General Meeting Recap

City of Blacktown Basketball Association | April 2026

On Thursday 16 April 2026, CBBA held its 2026 Annual General Meeting. The meeting ran from 6:36pm to 7:05pm, with members joining both in person and online. We had 22 members in attendance, comfortably clearing our constitutional quorum of 15. Thank you to everyone who showed up and had their say. Your involvement in how this association is governed matters.

Notices and Preparation

The 2026 AGM was run in full accordance with our constitution. The Preliminary Notice was sent to the membership via BasketballConnect on 11 March 2026, followed by the Final Notice on 25 March 2026. The financial report, auditor's report, director nominations, and life membership nomination were all circulated alongside the Final Notice.

Financial Reports Adopted

Our independent auditor Peter Gunton (CPA) concluded that CBBA's 2025 financial reports present the association's financial position fairly in all material respects. Both the auditor's report and financial report were formally adopted by the membership at the meeting.

Thank You to Our Outgoing Directors

A sincere thank you to our three outgoing directors whose terms concluded at the 2026 AGM: Bianca McVicar, Shane Hogan, and Chris Miguel, all elected at the 2024 AGM.

A directorship is a largely invisible role. The hours spent on governance and decision-making rarely get the recognition they deserve. On behalf of every member, player, family, and volunteer connected to this association: thank you. We know the absence of a director title won't change the contributions any of you continue to make to this community.

New Directors Elected

CBBA received three nominations for the three director positions available, with terms running through to the 2028 AGM. All three nominees were put to a membership vote and each received a majority in favour:

  • Danielle Wylie - elected

  • Michael Paino - elected

  • Shane Hogan - elected

Congratulations to our three incoming directors. We look forward to what you'll bring to the table.

CBBA's First Ever Life Member

The standout moment of the night was the vote on CBBA's very first life membership nomination. To be eligible, a nominee must have contributed to the promotion, integration, and development of basketball through the Association for a period of no less than 10 years, and must receive at least 75% of votes in favour from members in attendance.

Our nominee was Richard Watson.

Richard's connection to basketball in Blacktown stretches back to his teenage years, long before he held any official membership. He was one of the first referees for Storm prior to CBBA's incorporation, and his official membership records trace back to 2009. Over that time he has contributed as a player, coach, referee, referee coach, and supervisor. What sets Richard apart is the consistency with which he has shown up across all of those roles, year after year, without ever seeking recognition.

Richard received over 75% of votes in favour and is officially CBBA's first ever Life Member, effective 16 April 2026. It is an honour richly deserved. We will celebrating Richard’s life membership at the 2026 End of Season event in September.

The next director election will take place at the 2027 AGM. Thank you again to everyone who attended and participated in the 2026 AGM.
