2025 CBBA AGM - Directors re-elected and a reflection of the last 12 months

On Friday the 30th May 2025, the City of Blacktown Basketball Association (CBBA) hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at our official 2025 hospitality sponsor, Blacktown Tavern. The AGM served as a valuable opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past year, acknowledge our community’s growth and look ahead to a bold new chapter for basketball in Blacktown.

Director Elections

We are pleased to confirm that Lara Thompson and Richard Van Lyf were successfully elected to the CBBA Board of Directors. Both directors had served as special appointments since mid-term vacancies and were formally voted in for a new term through to the 2027 AGM. We thank our members who participated in the voting process and welcome Lara and Richard’s continued leadership and dedication. Our CBBA Board of Directors for the next 12 months will be the following (left to right):

2024: A Year of Growth and Milestones

Chairman Peter Nordstrom delivered a compelling summary of what was a transformative year for CBBA in 2024. Some key highlights included:

  • Community Growth: Over 2,500 total participants, including 1,300 registered players and 542 Aussie Hoops participants.

  • Domestic Competitions: More than 200 teams across 15 clubs, with 8 new leagues introduced.

  • Representative Program: 11 teams, 145 athletes, 1,400+ hours of training, and nearly 200 games played.

  • Representative Successes:

    • U18 Boys Junior Premier League inclusion

    • U16 Girls Team 1 – Champions

    • U16 Girls Team 2 – Runners-up

    • Youth League Men – Final Four

    • Waratah Men – First-time finalists

On the operational side, CBBA opened its first-ever dedicated office, expanded its administrative team, and rolled out Basketball Connect. New governance committees (Finance & Audit and Representative) were also established to support CBBA’s growth trajectory.

CBBA was honoured to be named BNSW Association of the Year, with Lachlan Arford awarded Paid Administrator of the Year and Bianca McVicar awarded Volunteer Administrator of the Year.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With momentum on our side, CBBA is set to have several new initiatives in 2025:

  • Youth League Women in 2025 WSL Season

  • Assist Hoops introductory skills program for people with intellectual disabilities

  • First-ever schools basketball competition with local Blacktown schools

  • Continued expansion of junior domestic leagues, across Stanhope, Emerton and Mount Druitt

  • Venue upgrades at Kevin Betts Stadium and Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre

In addition, the CBBA Strategic Program 2025–2030 will be released later this year, setting the roadmap for long-term growth, sustainability, and inclusion across all levels of the game.
